TikToker Jake Shane first carved out a space for himself on the internet with octopus reviews and his signature “pass that puss” slogan, but the social media sensation-turned-podcaster has brought his brand to new heights. He’s amassed over 3 million followers, interviewed A-list celebs, and is now taking his hilarious antics on the road for his Live with Jake Shane! tour.
If you thought he would be celebrating these milestones with, I don’t know, a celebratory cake, you would be wrong. During a recent sit-down with Delish, Shane revealed his hottest food takes—including the one thing he hates most (cake) and the proper occasion for octopus (it’s all the time).
“I hate eating dessert at a restaurant that I’m sitting at because I just wanna get up and leave,” he said, before vehemently adding, “I hate cake. I hate cake” *Gags* “I hate frosting. I hate cake. I hate cake. It’s disgusting.”
When asked what he does eat on his birthday, Shane was quick with a response. “Not cake,” he said. “Actually, no, ugh. I do have a cake. I don’t eat it though. Everyone else eats it. I like ice cream cake though… sometimes.”
Shane’s anti-cake stance is not his only hot take. He’s also “not a breakfast guy.”
“I think it’s my anxiety but I get very, very nauseous every single morning,” he explained. “I call it morning nausea. I just don’t get hungry until like noon.”
However, there is a caveat: “I’m a breakfast guy when I’m hungover,” he interjected. “My hungover meal of choice is shrimp harrow or a big bowl of pho. I do love a breakfast burrito, though. I love well-done eggs in my breakfast burrito; I love turkey bacon; I like roasted potatoes; I hate hash browns; and I like peppers and jalapeños. I like it spicy.”
He even revealed his favorite spot for the staple:
“The best breakfast burrito is at Café Los Feliz [in Los Angeles],” Shane revealed. “There was a nice cheese pull; the salsa was good. It’s just really, really good. I don’t know how to explain it.”
When it comes to the food that made him famous, Shane also has opinions. “Octopus is for any occasion. In a salad, in the form of sushi, grilled, in pasta. Literally in whatever you want, whenever you want,” he said. “I think that’s the reason I always hated breakfast. Because everyone was like, ‘Well, breakfast is eggs.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t want eggs for breakfast. I want octopus.”
