El Paso Kids Are Breaking This Law Like Crazy

I see it everyday around El Paso, Las Cruces and across both Texas and New Mexico. Kids breaking an obscure law by the thousands, day in and day out.

You’ve seen them and, being unaware of this law as I was, probably didn’t even bat an eyelash. Although, you may have raised an eyebrow. They are blatant about it, almost intentionally trying to draw attention to their flagrant lawlessness.

Trust me, it came as a total surprise to me but now that I know, I’m here to spread the word. I hope you will join me as well and help save our children from a life of crime.

It’s illegal … in Mesquite, Texas anyway … for kids to have unusual haircuts. Seriously, look it up. If this law were applied and enforced across the lone star state, Texas would make more money from the fines than New Mexico makes selling pot.

Maybe Mesquite should start putting counselors or court advocates in all the barber shops and salons around town and add a counseling course to the curriculum of all the beauty schools. Intervention is often the key.

Also, on the fashion front, don’t tuck your pants into one boot. (Left or right, it doesn’t matter.) Not unless you own at least 10 head of cattle anyway. There are also some rules for wearing cowboy boots in general and, since every self respecting Texan has at least one cowboy hat, there’s a cowboy hat code of conduct too.

These Texas laws seem pretty weird, but they must be there for a reason, right? What on earth led to these having to be passed?
