A Polish video game company plans to quadruple its local headcount after receiving state tax breaks.

CD Projekt Red plans to hire 141 employees in Massachusetts over the next three years and make its Waltham office its North American hub, the Boston Business Journal reported.

The company, the creator of the Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 games, currently has 42 full-time employees in the state after acquiring Massachusetts-based video game developer The Molasses Flood in 2021.

Along with the hiring, it plans to add another 9,100 SF of office space to its existing 14K SF location at 51 Sawyer Road in Waltham.

That 152K SF building is part of the University Office Park, owned by Albany Road Real Estate Partners. It also includes tenants Epoch Senior Living, Janitronics Building Services and Apex Wealth Group.

The expansion comes after CD Projekt Red received $2.1M in state incentives in return for job creation. Most of the expansion would be to help develop new games.

The deal is part of the state’s push to attract and retain companies. It has been actively working to draw Pawtucket-based Hasbro to Boston. The toymaker has reportedly been viewing space, including in the Seaport, Dorchester and near South Station.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has also pushed competitiveness and company retention, last week announcing the launch of a new business recruitment office. The office was created after other major companies, including Lego, Roche and Nvidia, moved to the city.
