Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco continue to be the living embodiment of #couplegoals. All of Benny’s social media channels are basically now fan pages for Selena, and the pair just dropped a joint album, I Said I Love You First, that dives into their love story.
“I may not b able to remember when we first met over 15 years ago but I do remember our first kiss and how it changed our lives forever,” the music producer, 37, wrote on Instagram the day the album was released. “I feel like today is different than all of the other times I’ve put albums out bc I’m not doing it alone. I get to do all the scary parts of being an artist with my best friend by my side.”
The singer, 32, shared her own tribute to her fiancé, writing that Benny is the “one thing I can’t live without.” Basically, it’s a serious lovefest all over social media.
While this engaged couple have shared snippets about their personal life with the public, it’s fair to wonder what their relationship is really like behind the scenes. Recent photos of the two promoting their music suggest they’re just as in love as they say, according to Patti Wood, a body language expert and author of Snap: Making the Most of First Impressions, Body Language, and Charisma. She analyzed some candid snaps of Selena and Benny to figure out what their body language suggests about the inner workings of their relationship.

Last week, the couple went on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote their album, and while they sat on separate couches during the joint interview, it’s clear they’re still connected, Wood says.
“They are in so many ways polar opposites, and this photo illustrates that beautifully,” she explains. “He’s laidback, literally and figuratively.” Wood points to Benny’s knees turned outwards and his open hands as prime examples of his relaxed nature. “He is absolutely at ease, which suggests they’re at a good stage in their relationship,” Wood says.
Meanwhile, Selena looks more “ladylike” and even a little tense about sharing her relationship with the world, Wood says, noting her crossed legs and hands clutching one another. “But Selena can’t help herself: Her direct gaze at Benny says, ‘Isn’t he adorable?’” Awwwww.
The way they hold hands is reminiscent of young love.
On a recent outing in New York City, Selena and Benny “have the nonverbal energy of little kids,” Wood says, which suggests they feel giddy with each other. For example, “they’re holding each other’s hands up,” she points out, noting that teenagers tend to hold hands this way. However, Benny’s hand is underneath Selena’s, which Wood says suggests he’s a little more supportive—in that moment, at least.
While their walking style is a little different (they’re leading with opposite feet), the couple is aligned in other ways. Case in point: They have their eyes closed at the same time, which shows they’re in the moment together. “They look blissful,” Wood says. “Their upper teeth are showing…they’re just enjoying each other.”
Selena’s protective of Benny, who brings out the best in her.
In this snap, taken while the couple was on an evening walk around New York, Selena showcases a subtle protective stance toward Benny. His arm is in back, while hers are in front, suggesting Selena wants to shield Benny slightly here, says Wood. The couple’s stride also perfectly lines up, underscoring how in sync they are, she adds.
It’s also worth noting how Selena radiates pure joy in this moment. While her face is titled down, she still has a massive smile on her face. “When Selena is with him, she looks younger,” Wood says. “It’s so revealing. He brings out a level of exuberance in her, an innocence that is really nice.”
It’s too early to tell if Selena and Benny’s new album will top the charts, but it’s clear they’re No.1 in each other’s hearts.
