Leaven Kids opens second San Antonio center to boost education

SAN ANTONIO — Leaven Kids, a California-based nonprofit, celebrated the grand opening of its second after-school learning center in San Antonio at Westway Apartments, an Opportunity Home San Antonio Public Housing community.

This expansion follows the organization’s initial entry into the city in 2023 with a center at Riverside Apartments.

Leaven Kids strategically selects neighborhoods affected by crime, poverty, and low academic proficiency to provide free after-school support. The goal is to help struggling students achieve higher academic levels and improve long-term educational outcomes.

Children residing at Westway Apartments currently attend Martin Elementary School, where only about 9% of students score at or above grade-level proficiency in math, and 12% meet proficiency standards in reading.

The new learning center aims to provide these students with the additional educational resources they need to succeed in school and beyond.
