Kids learn about demolition in downtown Jonesboro

Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 27, 2025 — Parents and kids alike gathered in Union Park on Thursday as the Downtown Jonesboro Alliance (DJA) and Nabholz Construction hosted a Lunch ‘N Learn, where children got to see Nabholz equipment in action and learn how demolition works.

During the event, Nabholz employees project manager Mackenzie Scott, executive vice president of operations Adam Seiter, project engineer Colton Stark and intern Brooke Gerau, entertained the children as they answered questions about the demolition of the former Citizens Bank building and heavy equipment needed for the project, such as a high-reach excavator.

The demolition method being used is a wet demolition, in which the part of the building being demolished is sprayed with water to prevent any asbestos-containing material from becoming airborne. Demo started on March 10 and is estimated to take eight to 12 weeks.

Downtown Jonesboro Alliance executive director Sarah Doss said she was excited by the event’s great turnout.

People were not required to register for the event, so there was no official count for how many people attended.

“I think it just goes towards our mission at the DJA,” Doss said. “We’re making lemonade out of lemons and hoping to find all the exciting pieces of a difficult situation we’re in. We certainly see the light at the end of the tunnel now that [the building is] coming down so quickly and we’re just excited to share that and celebrate that with our community.”
