Welcome to the weekly Port City Foodies newsletter brought to you by me, StarNews reporter Allison Ballard. Like a lot of local foodies, I was interested in the fleet of food trucks that have been traveling up the coast and arrived in Wilmington this week. They’ve been at a few area hotspots for filming The Great Food Truck Race for the Food Network. I was able to check some of them out. As much as I tried to stay in the background, I was told there’s a (very) small chance that I could be on the show for a few seconds! But, I’ll tell ya, I’m perfectly fine if it’s edited out. Read more below.
Cool sushi
Another highlight from this week was getting a sneak preview of the newest restaurant from Giorgios Bakatsias. It’s in the former Grand Cru restaurant space and has the same attention to atmosphere as the restaurateur’s other eateries, Kipos and G Prime. That and Chef James Nash’s passion for sushi and Japanese food is sure to make it a favorite.
Local classics
It’s not always about what’s new. This week, we also shared about a farm-to-table brunch restaurant in Brunswick County. They’ve started adding cooking classes and, now, wine dinners after hours.
And expansion plans continue for one of the area’s most popular seafood restaurants. Find out where they plan to open next.
Food on the go
Crews from the Food Network are scheduled to film through Friday. But we will likely have to wait awhile until the 18th season of The Great Food Truck Race airs. Until then, what are your spoilers? Did anyone get to try the visiting food trucks while they were here?
