For older gamers, almost all of their video game news came from magazines like Nintendo Power, Playstation Magazine, or Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Unfortunately, one of the last bastions of printed video game media, Game Informer, came to an end in August 2024. The publication had existed for 33 years and was the longest-running video game magazine in history.
“After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ver-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy hear that we announce the closure of Game Informer,” their announcement read.
“Thank you for being a part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventure never end.”
Needless to say, countless fans paid tribute to the magazine, lamenting the loss of such an integral part of gaming history. Now, it seems that Game Informer is back from the dead.

On March 25, 2025, Game Informer Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller announced that the publication was officially back under new ownership. On top of that, the entire Game Informer team had returned as well.
“The whole team has returned, and we can’t wait to connect with you again,” Miller said in the official announcement.
Miller went on to say that the rights for Game Informer had been secured by Gunzilla Games, although Game Informer remains an “independent editorial outlet.”
“Game Informer now operates under an entity called Game Informer Inc., and our intent is to continue to focus on highlighting the coolest games, celebrating the history and legacy of the gaming industry, and shining a spotlight on the creators and players who are charting its future,” Miller said.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust and enthusiasm from the team at Gunzilla Games; they see the same potential in Game Informer as our team does, and their encouragement to do so ethically and free of outside pressure is laudable.”

Game Informer celebrated their return by releasing their Game of the Year awards, celebrating the excellent gaming achievements of 2024, albeit a bit late.
Additionally, the returning team members shared multiple articles and reviews from when they were on hiatus, including an appropriate ranking of the best resurrections in gaming history.
