When the Detroit Tigers home season opens April 4 at Comerica Park, fans can expect more than hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jack.
Comerica Park is serving up new local fare and expanded offerings for the 2025 season, plus returning favorites.
On Wednesday, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment and the Tigers revealed details of the new food and beverage offerings at Comerica Park that include the return of Slows Bar BQ and Breadless plus popular smash burgers from Fairway Packing in Fraser.
At the annual “What’s New” at the ballpark media event, the Tigers organization and Delaware North Sportservice, its food and beverage partner, hosted a food tasting along with announcing new and returning food vendors, new merchandise, game day specials and unique food items.
A highlight, as in years past, is the Tigers’ continued commitment to putting the spotlight on local restaurants in the city of Detroit. This season brings new and previous local food partnerships to fans throughout the ballpark.
Mark Szubeczak, executive chef of Comerica Park for Delaware North Sportservice, said this is an exciting season with the expansion of their partnership with Slows Bar BQ and Breadless and the new Home Plate Club. At the Home Plate Club, Szubeczak said, they will have a scratch kitchen where new items will be created every day during those 81 home games.
“We have great, great items for everyone to enjoy at the ballpark,” he said. “We are all excited for 2025 season. We have so many good flavors. We have smashburgers from Fairway Packing … a nice cheesy, cheesy burger. We are ready to go.”
This is the first foray into Comerica Park for Fairway Packing Co., a Fraser meat distributor. Emmet Baratta, president and CEO of the family-owned business, said its popular smashburger, which first debuted at Little Caesars Arena, will have its own concession area in the Big Cat Court. Fairway is also one of the meat suppliers for the Home Plate Club, which will feature the popular and impressive dry-aged Tomahawk steak.
“At the Home Plate Club, they are giving you an elevated experience with the dry-aged Tomahawk steak,” Baratta said. “We are also doing some porterhouses. They truly went all out on all steak offerings for the clubs. “
Returning flavors
Back for this season, Slows Bar BQ is offering two of its popular sandwiches: the Reason and Yardbirds. The Corktown-based restaurant also added a new sandwich called “Put Me In Coach,” which features shredded brisket in Kansas City-style BBQ sauce, topped with sliced onion and dill pickles. They will also serve their popular mac and cheese.
For the last three seasons at Comerica Park, Breadless was a rotating pop-up. Breadless is now a staple in Section 140.
“We will be serving up fresh bold flavors for all 81 tigers home games, events, and concerts as well,” Marc Howland, co-owner of Breadless, said.
Howland said it’s been an incredible experience over three years for Breadless.
“We are Detroit entrepreneurs,” he said. “We started this from the bottom up, started selling sandwiches out of brown paper in gyms. To be in such a community staple powerhouse like Comerica Park, on a rotating basis to try it out and see how everything goes. And then to knock it out of the park and for fans to love it to invite us back permanently just means the world to us.”
