New McWane Field in Phillipsburg to provide multi-sport opportunities for kids

A new field of dreams is in the works, this one in New Jersey.

An event was held this week on a new turf field in Phillipsburg.

Kids will be able to play football, baseball. Softball, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey there and they’ll be able to use the park year-round.

The field is a partnership between the Ripken Foundation and New Jersey manufacturer McWane Ductile. It will be known as McWane Field.

And it’s right in the middle of town.

Here’s what people involved with the project had to say when the field was first announced in 2023.

“I’m most excited to be able to bring the kids down from the Firth Youth Center. be able to show them all of the new stuff that this field will have to offer.”

“I want to give back and I want to make a difference, and we had success in baseball, and we have a chance now to continue to give back and use our names in a way to help kids.”

Baseball Hall of Famer and former New York Yankee Goose Gossage was at this Monday’s reveal. He threw out the first pitch to a local 5th grader.

The Cal Ripken Senior Foundation was created in 2001 by Cal Ripken Junior, the famed baseball legend who played his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles, and his brother Bill Ripken in honor of their father, who was a mentor and coach.
