Kate Middleton Explains Why She Moved George, Charlotte, and Louis from 20-Room “Prison for Kids”

Kate Middleton and Prince William have moved around a lot since their wedding in 2011: they kicked things off in Kensington Palace’s apartment 1A (less of an apartment and more of a 20-room mansion), before moving to Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, and then to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate. And while the royals don’t typically explain themselves or their housing decisions, Kate just gave a rare comment about the family’s move to Windsor.

Kate was asked where she lived during a St. Patrick’s Day event earlier this month, saying “We are in Windsor at the moment. We were in London but moved there for more green space. It’s close enough to London, not too far away.”

A source spoke about Kate and Prince William’s decision to move from London back in 2022, telling The Mirror “This is very much a decision that two parents have made to give their children the ‘most normal’ start possible. KP can be a little bit of a fishbowl. They wanted to be able to give George, Charlotte, and Louis a bit more freedom than they have living in central London. It’s very much a decision that’s been led by the kids.”

Meanwhile, royal biographer Ingrid Seward told The Sun, “I think Wills and Kate need space to bring up their children. Kensington Palace is a glorious prison for kids – they want to be able to play football without being watched from behind the gates. I think Windsor will be perfect for them, as they will have lots of freedom and they can all be at school together.”

Of course, Adelaide Cottage is just one of the Waleses’ homes…
