Driver who nearly hit 2 kids trying to board P-H-M school bus pleads not guilty

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – The woman who is accused of driving around a Penn-Harris-Madison school bus and nearly hitting two kids who were trying to board it has pleaded not guilty to her charges.

23-year-old Shau-Ri Rose is charged with two felony counts of criminal recklessness in connection with the incident, which happened last Tuesday on Ash Road near Osceola. Video of the incident, which was captured by the mother of the kids through a Ring doorbell camera, went viral on social media.

In the video, you can see the two kids, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, were about to board the bus when a car drove onto the shoulder on the side where kids enter the bus, and passed the bus directly in front of the two kids.

According to charging documents, Rose claimed she got distracted because her son had unstrapped himself from his car seat. She reportedly told investigators she had to drive around the bus to avoid hitting it because she wouldn’t have been able to stop in time.

In court on Tuesday, Rose entered a preliminary plea of not guilty to her charges. Her bond was also set at $3,000 cash.

Rose is due in court again on April 3.
