NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) – Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is set to begin a monthly mobile food distribution in Cocke County as a part of Hurricane Helene relief efforts.
Food will be distributed on the fourth Tuesday of each month beginning on Tuesday, March 25.
Gates will open at the Cocke County Fairgrounds in Newport at 9 a.m. with distribution beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until all allotted food is distributed.
Officials with Second Harvest said this initial distribution will involve two trucks filled with food for about 600 households. Additionally, each household who attends the distribution will receive meat, produce and dairy, along with other shelf-stable goods.
“We’ve stated before that Hurricane Helene relief efforts would be a marathon rather than a sprint. This pantry is just one example of the ongoing efforts Second Harvest is providing to those affected by the devastating floods. Your food bank produces 230 Mobile Pantries each year across our 18-county service area. It’s one of the many ways Second Harvest is committed to nourishing our communities,” said Elaine Streno, executive director of Second Harvest.
Each driver can receive food for their household as well as one additional household. Officials said those picking up for other households should bring proof of address to confirm that they live at different addresses.
