Portage Pantry’s food drive begins this week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The Portage Pantry is asking you for donations!

Starting Monday, the pantry is holding a weeklong food drive in partnership with the St. Joseph County Police Department.

So now through Friday you can drop off non-perishable food items as well as hygiene products at the St. Joseph County jail off of Sample Street.

“The goal here is, to have a really big- we have a really big vision for what this is going to look like in the future. We really want this to be a dignified experience for folks that are experiencing food insecurity. So for right now, we’re gonna start with what we have. So we’re asking folks to donate food that they have. We’re gonna open up on Tuesdays and hopefully, we’re gonna expand our hours from there,” said Jason Critchlow the Portage Township trustee.

Again you can stop by the jail any time between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. now through Friday.

Just bring them to the front lobby and the department will take it from there!
