Former Levy County finance director arrested for embezzling $23,000

BRONSON, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said an investigation into a county official has ended in an arrest.

LCSO deputies said they arrested Nicole Gore, 40, of Bell, on Monday afternoon. Gore was fired from her position as county finance director in January over concerns about her use of agency funds.

Officials said they suspect Gore had been embezzling funds for almost six months before the discrepancies were identified and verified.

Sheriff Bobby McCallum said he requested that the FDLE investigate the case for transparency’s sake. Investigators said that Gore embezzled approximately $23,000.

“I want to express my appreciation to the FDLE and the State Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this investigation,” Sheriff McCallum said. “I want to ensure my citizens that I will hold my employees accountable. Theft will not be tolerated and as a recipient of the public funds that were stolen I will request prosecution to the fullest extent and full restitution.”

Gore was terminated by Sheriff McCallum on Jan. 6. She was initially hired as the assistant finance director in 2015 and was promoted to finance director in 2019.

Officials said Gore turned herself in at the Levy County Jail on Monday after FDLE investigators secured the warrant for her arrest.

Her bond was set at $40,000.00.
