Driver who nearly hit 2 kids trying to board P-H-M school bus arrested

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – The woman who is accused of driving around a Penn-Harris-Madison school bus and nearly hitting two kids who were trying to board it has been arrested.

Police say 23-year-old Shau-Ri Rose voluntarily turned herself in this morning. A warrant had been issued for her arrest after charges were filed against her late last week.

Rose is charged with two felony counts of criminal recklessness in connection with the incident, which happened last Tuesday on Ash Road near Osceola. Video of the incident, which was captured by the mother of the kids through a Ring doorbell camera, went viral on social media.

In the video, you can see the two kids, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, were about to board the bus when a car drove onto the shoulder on the side where kids enter the bus, and passed the bus directly in front of the two kids.

According to charging documents, Rose told investigators she was taking her son to daycare at the time of the incident and had turned around to tell him to get back in his car seat after he unstrapped himself from it. She said the bus was stopped by the time she turned back around and that she had to drive around it to avoid crashing into it because she was unable to stop and her brakes weren’t working well.

After seeing the video of the incident on social media, Rose allegedly told police she tried to call them but was unsuccessful. Police later noticed two outgoing phone calls to the St. Joseph County Police Department after going through her call records.

According to St. Joseph County Jail records, Rose is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
