
FLUSHING, N.Y. – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has announced its All-Star awards and team for the 2024-25 men’s indoor track & field season.
Jahiem Johnson of Medgar Evers repeated as the Track Athlete of the Year. Solomon Kumi of Hunter was selected as the Field Athlete of the Year, while Reco Griffith of Medgar Evers earned Rookie of the Year accolades. Cougar head coach Hugh Reid was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year, while Dontay Washington of Medgar Evers was the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.
Track Athlete of the Year: Jahiem Johnson, Medgar Evers
Johnson was named Track Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. In 2024-25, Johnson boasted the CUNYAC’s top mark in the 400 (51.19) and the No. 2 mark in the 60 (7.17) and the 200 (22.10). He was also a member of the Cougar’s 4×400 relay that took gold at the CUNYAC Championship. At the conference championship he took first in the 400, second in the 200 and third in the 60-meter dash.
Field Athlete of the Year: Solomon Kumi, Hunter
Kumi held the top mark in the CUNYAC this season in both the high jump (1.83 meters) and the triple jump (12.63 meters) while posting the fourth-best long jump mark in the conference (6.05 meters). The MVP of the CUNYAC Championship, Kumi took gold in the triple jump while placing second in the high jump and 60 meter hurdles and third in the long jump.
Rookie of the Year: Reco Griffith, Medgar Evers
Griffith laid down the top time in the CUNYAC this season in both the 60-meter dash (6.90 seconds) and the 200 (21.87) while owing the No, 5 time in the 400 (54.88). Griffith took gold three times at the CUNYAC Championship, placing first in the 60, 200 and as part of the Cougars’ 4×400 relay.
Coach of the Year: Hugh Reid, Medgar Evers
Reid won Coach of the Year in indoor track and field for the second straight year after guiding the Cougars to their second straight conference title. Medgar Evers had nine individual event winners at the CUNYAC championship.
