An Ankeny food manufacturer and packager with plans to expand its operations that had received tax incentives from the city to do so is now also to receive aid from the state of Iowa.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board on March 21 approved $708,000 in tax credits for MCF Operating LLC, also known as Mrs. Clark’s Foods, to support the company’s planned construction of a 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility to be located next to the current manufacturing, warehouse and distribution facility at 740 S.E. Dalbey Drive.
The Ankeny City Council on March 17 had awarded Mrs. Clark’s Foods up to $360,000 in tax increment financing rebates over five years for the new facility.
The total budget for the project to primarily boost the company’s juice production, and create 12 jobs in three years in the process, is $25.7 million, according to Iowa Economic Development Authority documents.
The company — a manufacturer and packager of nationally and internationally sold mayonnaise, salad dressing, juices, and barbecue, tartar and other sauces — is taking out a bank loan to finance the expansion.
Demolition of the company’s building currently on the site of the expansion and preparation for the new construction is planned to be completed by the end of July. Construction could start in August and be finished in a year, leaving a few more months to by December 2026 purchase and set up new equipment.
Mrs. Clark’s Foods employed 128 people in Ankeny, as of February 2025.
The company in 2020 received $322,500 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for a more than $9.2 million facility expansion that created one job and involved 19 more jobs, according to state and city documents.
