Reno Aces revamp menu with locally sourced options

New food and drink options will be available at Aces games this season — including a new Ace Ball ale.

Long gone are the days when hot dogs were the only source of sustenance on a ball field. While still a fan favorite, new dishes are stepping up to the plate.

“We are leaning into some local product this year,” Eric Edelstein, president of the Reno Aces, told the RGJ Thursday.

Edelstein said he’s wanted to transition toward local products for several years, but it was challenging to find vendors that were equipped to handle the intermittent demand of home games.

“(It’s) 5,000 people a night for a week, and then no one the next week and then 5,000 people a night for a week,” he said.

Three local companies met those expectations — Truckee-based FiftyFifty Brewing Co., Reno-based Beloved’s Bakery and Cafem and Carson City-based Flocchini Family Provisions.

FiftyFifty Brewing Co. recently began production of Ace Ball ale, a blonde beer. It was previously produced by Hop Valley. It pairs well with Beloved’s baked pretzel.

Another new addition, a Basque chorizo sausage, comes from Flocchini. It’s the star ingredient in a specialty hot dog with grilled peppers and onions.

“Our hot dogs might be the freshest hot dogs in America,” Edelstein said.

When he’s busy in the stadium, Edelstein’s go-to order is a hot dog. But when he can spare more time, he enjoys a burger. “It’s fresh, and it’s really good,” he said.

Eight new items are revamping the menus at Greater Nevada Field — including a vegetarian option. The dole whip, a creamy pineapple soft serve dessert, is chef Maurice Palacios’ favorite.
