RIB MOUNTAIN, Wis. (WSAW) – Marathon County Crime Stoppers is asking for your help identifying three people they say are responsible for retail theft from Spencer’s in the Village of Rib Mountain.
Surveillance video from January shows an adult female and two juvenile females enter the store on January 4th and January 10th then conceal items before leaving the store without paying.
“Definitely not going to be parent or guardian of the year when you’re taking a child out and teaching them to steal,” said Detective Brad Tatro with Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.
They’re accused of stealing $405.84 worth of merchandise during the two separate occasions. While the total may not seem like a lot, especially for a national retail chain, Det. Tatro, continued theft could have an impact on the consumer down the road. “It matters because not only is it costing the cooperation money but that charge is not something they’re going to eat on their own. They’ll pass on those extra expenses to the consumer in essence everyone is going to end up paying a little bit more if we don’t stop this kind of behavior,” explained Tatro.
Stealing is a crime but perhaps most disturbing is seeing an adult encourage the bad behavior. According to Det. Tatro, stopping illegal behavior now, could help prevent other crimes in the future. “This is obviously not a major crime. However, it can lead to other crimes. This kind of behavior especially being taught to somebody, you can see an uptick in this behavior at different businesses or maybe residences, schools things like that,” said Det. Tatro.
The adult was described as a Caucasian female approximately 5′6″ tall and weighing 200 and in her mid-40s. The juveniles both appeared to be of Asian descent.
