Community rallies for Mark Prynkiewicz with food truck events planned across Lowcountry

The Charleston food truck community is rallying to support one of their own, Mark Prynkiewicz, after he suffered a serious injury while working.

Prynkiewicz, a beloved figure among his peers, was hurt when he fell off the top of a freezer while opening a brick-and-mortar location.

Ayman Mekky, a close friend and fellow food truck vendor, described Prynkiewicz as “a great family guy” and “a guy that literally takes the shirt off his back for other people.”

Mekky emphasized the strong sense of community among local vendors, saying, “It’s just amazing how you help others and it comes back to you. We’re so blessed with the Charleston food truck community.”

To support Prynkiewicz, a series of food truck rodeos are being held in his honor. One such event is scheduled for Thursday night at Foxbank Plantation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mekky noted the swift response from the community, saying, “It’s really just people calling and texting Jaime and I to say whenever you guys are ready. Everybody just wants to do something.”

Despite the challenges, there is positive news about Prynkiewicz’s recovery.

“He’s doing good,” Mekky said. “He came yesterday and I seen him here and it was so good to see him back in the kitchen. Still fragile but you know. Blessed that he’s still on this Earth.”

In addition to the rodeos, a GoFundMe account has been set up to assist with Prynkiewicz’s recovery.

More food truck fundraisers are planned, including events at the Bluffs at Ashley River and French Quarter Creek on Thursday, and another at Carolina Bay on Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. On March 30, additional food trucks will gather at 4831 Mixon Avenue in North Charleston to raise further funds for Prynkiewicz.
