Tips for parenting after the kids become adults in new book

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – There are many books that help new parents navigate life all the way from birth to adolescence, but author Kathleen Phillips saw a gap in help for parents after their children turn 18 so she’s tackling the topic in a new book.

Phillips says she knows the feeling of transitioning from parenthood after a child turns 18 and has heard a lot of stories from parents who struggled.

“I’ve heard a lot of stories and having raised my own children, I know what it’s like when your child turns 18 and you have no more control over them,” Kathleen said. “You go from being someone who was in control of everything they did to someone who’s now trying to renegotiate a relationship with them.”

She also said she wanted to write “Love Out of Control: Meditations for Parents of Adult Children” because there is no universal approach to caring for children as they become adults, and she wanted those parents to feel less alone.

For more information on the book or the author, Phillips will be signing copies at Middleway Urban Monastery located on 1101 Rock Prairie Rd. in College Station this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
