St. Louis County woman accused of leaving kids home alone during Friday’s storms

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A St. Louis County woman is facing several charges after being accused of leaving her children home alone during Friday night’s severe weather.

Crystal Ray allegedly left her four children, aged 8, 5, 3 and 8 months, unsupervised in a St. Ann home during the severe weather. Charging documents state the children were upset and that Ray left when the sirens were going off.

According to police, the children were left alone for several hours. During the time they were alone, there were brush fires, power outages, downed power lines and significant debris in their area.

Police told First Alert 4 a concerned family member alerted them that the children were alone.

When police contacted Ray, she reportedly showed signs of intoxication. When she was arrested, she wrestled with the officers and hit and kicked them, police said.

Ray is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of children, creating substantial risk, and one count of resisting arrest.
