Chattanooga man faces child abuse charges after 4 kids found ‘within reach’ of fentanyl

A man and woman in Chattanooga both face several charges including aggravated child abuse after authorities found 4 kids inside a home who were “within reach” of a stash of fentanyl.

Police arrested 26-year-old William Howard Wright on Tuesday. That followed the arrest of 20-year-old Ah’Toria Charelle Ragsdale back in January.

An affidavit our newsroom obtained says authorities were called to an apartment on Wilson Street on Jan. 16th.

There, the report says officers found

  • About a half-pound fentanyl, in the form of blue pills
  • Just over a quarter-pound of marijuana
  • 1.12 grams of an unknown white substance
  • 2 Glock handguns
  • A firearm suppressor

The report says officers located the fentanyl “in the kitchen inside a drawer and in the main bedroom on top of a dresser” inside the apartment, and points out

..this dangerous and deadly substance was within reach of the children who share the residence with their mother.

Ragsdale was the leaseholder for the apartment, and the report says officers suspeted she “had knowledge and access to the narcotics and firearms located in her residence.”

Wright admitted to police that Ragsdale was his “baby mama,” according to the report.

Wright is now charged with

  • Aggravated child abuse x4
  • Possession of drugs for resale x3
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possessing a firearm with intent to go armed x2
  • Possession of a firearm during commission of a felony
  • Tinted windows violation
  • Seatbelt law violation
  • Driving on a suspended license.

Ragsdale is charged with

  • Aggravated child abuse x4
  • Possession of drugs for resale x2
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
