TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Spring is right around the corner and Gage Park kicked off the season early by opening its mini-train and carousel Saturday morning.
This is the third year for the electric mini train and the old-fashioned carousel is more than 100 years old.
Families lined up, with tickets in hand ready to experience the first ride of the season.
Riders say this is one of Topeka’s many treasures and they have enjoyed it year after year.
“It is a Topeka gem and we have so few – it’s the kick-off of the season. It, for me, means the beginning of summer and I just get so excited. We don’t have to leave Topeka to enjoy beauty,” said Shampayne Lloyd, attendee.
The two attractions will stay open daily through March 23rd while many students are on spring break, remaining open on weekends through the rest of the school year, and then will resume daily operation for the summer.
