Food insecurity continues to be a growing crisis throughout the United States.
As of October 2023, the California Association of Food Banks reported that more than 3 million households in California were dealing with food insecurity. Food insecurity is defined as a lack of access to affordable, nutritious foods that can be felt at the individual, family, or neighborhood level. Demand for access to healthy food has risen since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and as demand rises, supply that is often provided by local food banks has become increasingly strained.
