NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Tennessee State University has paused its search for a new president amid financial instability.
On Friday, the HBCU announced the search would be put on hold.
Interim President, Dwayne Tucker, replaced Dr. Ronald Johnson in December. Johnson resigned just a few months in the position.
Johnson cited irreconcilable differences with the board.
The university did not give an exact reason why the search was ending, although they said Tucker has plans to stick around until the search resumes.
Just a few months ago, the university said it would run out of money by May.
The school said it will now lose more than $14 million in USDA grants within the next 90 days.
Due to the loss of money and cuts to federal spending, TSU said it will have to cut some of its staff.
Additionally, they added that some scholarships are also on the chopping block
