BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College Director of Athletics Performance Rick Burr announced the hiring of Collin Spillane as the department’s new sports performance specialist on Thursday.
Spillane comes to Babson after spending the last year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Fitchburg State University. He worked directly with the Falcons’ cross country, men’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s track & field teams, conducting athlete performance assessments and developing and implementing customized programs for all teams.
Additionally, Spillane helped monitor injuries using SportsWare and adjusted training programs to facilitate effective rehabilitation and progress for student-athletes.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Collin to our sports performance team, commented head strength and conditioning coach Joel St. Cyr. “His expertise and passion for enhancing athlete performance along with his innovative approach and background in sports science will be a fantastic asset to our athletes’ development. Collin’s commitment to athlete wellness and performance aligns perfectly with our team’s goals.”
A 2018 graduate of Regis College where he was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse program, Spillane became a certified personal trainer and started Spillane Strength and Conditioning in May 2020. He also served as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at Brandeis University beginning in the fall of 2023 before joining Fitchburg State in February.
“I am excited to join Babson College as a sports performance specialist,” said Spillane. “Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to developing athletes by optimizing strength, speed, and overall performance through individualized programming and data-driven training. I’m eager to bring my experience in athletic development to Babson athletics, helping student-athletes reach their full potential and compete at the highest level.”
Following his graduation from Regis, Spillane returned to Tri-Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School and coached the varsity girls’ lacrosse, junior varsity boys’ and girls’ soccer and junior varsity boys’ hockey teams from 2018-24. He started the girls lacrosse program in 2019 and led his squad to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) playoffs in both 2022 and 2023 after earning varsity status in 2021.
Spillane also served as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at Tri-County RVTHS from 2022-24.
A native of Franklin, Mass., Spillane earned his master of education degree from Fitchburg State in August 2021.
