Louisville kids to experience orchestra performance at Kentucky Center for the Arts

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Local elementary school kids have the opportunity to experience a live orchestra performance.

Through a partnership with the Louisville Orchestra and Jefferson County Public Schools, more than 6,000 4th and 5th graders will visit Whitney Hall at the Kentucky Center in downtown Louisville to see the performance first hand.

Some kids will even get the chance to conduct the orchestra or have their own musical creations played.

“I think it’s quite significant that when I tell people I work for the orchestra, nine times out of ten the first answer I get is that ‘I went to the orchestra when I was a kid,” Sarah Lempke O’Hare, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Louisvile Orchestra, said. “I’ll say, ‘Oh yeah, making music?’ and they’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Musicians work closely with music teachers in the district to put the “Making Music” event together, which The Louisville Orchestra has been doing for 90 years.
