COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Larry J. Ringer Library brought local kids together to learn about and interact with the many big vehicles of College Station on Wednesday.
Larry J. Ringer Library hosted Big Vehicles at the library on Wednesday morning to teach local kids about jobs and vehicles that make up the College Station community. At the event, kids got to sit in, touch, and sound the horns of various vehicles with employee supervision.
Big Vehicles aims to teach the community about city offices and the Bryan-College Station Public Library System in a fun, interactive way.

“This is just a fun way that we can connect people in the community to all the different departments around them, and we have so many fans of the vehicles at the library. From construction equipment to police cars, fire trucks,” explained Makenzie Kubacak, children’s librarian at Larry J. Ringer. “To see them up close and personal; they love seeing that, and then they get to go back inside and maybe check out some more books all about those different vehicles.”
The annual event invites families to learn more about the vehicles and employees that keep the city running in a safe environment. The lot was full of families snapping pictures, pressing lots of buttons, and climbing ladders with local employees.
Some of the vehicles featured included College Station Public Works, Police Department, Water Department, Fire Department, and Candy 95 radio station.
“It’s just showing how learning can be fun and showing all of the different things that are out in this world. Helping kids to learn more about different things, develop hobbies, answer questions that they might have. Then, when they see that stuff in person, they get to go and get some more books about those; and who knows, maybe we might have some future firefighters or police officers here,” Kubacak added.
