USDA cuts target local food purchases for schools, food banks

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The UVM men’s basketball team saw its season come to a close in disappointing fashion, falling to Maine 57-42 in the America East Semifinals Tuesday night at Patrick Gym. The loss ends Vermont’s ten-game win streak and three-year rein atop the conference.
Playing in its first semifinal game in 20 years, Maine made the most of their opportunity, frustrating the Cats all night on the offensive end. UVM made just 14 field goals all night, held to just 26% shooting. TJ Hurley had an especially tough night, not connecting on a field goal attempt until the dying minutes of the second half despite a stellar second half of the season.
The Cats will say goodbye to four seniors and grad students, with Jace Roquemore, Ileri Ayo-Faleye, Shamir Bogues, and Nick Fiorillo moving on after the season.
“It’s been everything for me,” Fiorillo said after the game. “Been here six years, played five and a COVID season. So, you know, I spent a quarter of my life here at this program. Teams can always say it’s a family and stuff, but this program, it really is. Those aren’t coaches. Those aren’t teammates. That’s family, you know. So really thankful to be able to play here. It’s a great university and I’m gonna miss it.”
Maine moves on to the America East Championship Game Saturday at Bryant while the Cats wrap their season at 21-12 (13-3 AE).
