Robbers hold gun on father in front of wife, kids, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A group of robbers held a gun at a man in front of his wife and children, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

The robbery happened just after noon on March 7 on Elliston Road. MPD said the family was outside doing home repairs when two men walked by them. The men returned several minutes later, according to police, and pointed guns at the family while demanding money.

According to police, the family told the robbers that they didn’t have any money. That’s when, MPD said, one of the robbers pointed a gun at the father in front of his wife and children. The family handed over some cash, and the robbers ran off.

MPD said a 23-year-old man, Kentrell Haggins, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and possession of a prohibited weapon, but the other gunman remains at large.

Haggins and the other gunman typically work in a group that is thought to be responsible for other robberies in the area, according to police. MPD said they typically walk around in groups of two or four, armed with pistols and rifles.

If you have any idea who the other man responsible for this robbery is or know anything about the group’s alleged other crimes, police asked you to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274.
