Zach Kwiatkowski is no stranger to moving and adapting to new situations. He’s lived in Ohio, Florida, and Georgia but he likes to consider himself a Florida boy. By the time he graduated high school he’d been to five different schools. The decision to go away for college wasn’t a hard one for him to make.
“Growing up, I was able to adapt quickly to the change of environment. Moving or meeting new people has never really been hard for me,” said Kwiatkowski.
After his sophomore year at East Georgia State College, he decided he wanted to transfer to a new school. Kwiatkowski is now a senior at Augusta University and a member of the baseball team. The two cities gave him such different experiences but he’s happy he made the switch to AU.
“I just love the atmosphere and the culture here. I’ve probably met some of my best friends on the team for life,” he said.
With graduation coming in May this is his final season playing baseball with the Jaguars. He always knew this day would come and he’s grateful for the way everything turned out. Kwiatkowski doesn’t have any personal goals to end his final season because at the end of the day he knows he won’t be looking back at his records. Everything he’ll look back on will be about the memories he made.
Kwiatkowski will be graduating with a degree in business management but it’s not what he originally thought he’d be pursuing. When starting college, he originally declared a major in criminal justice, and while he might have loved the classes, he quickly learned that it might not be for him.
“I thought I wanted to work in like the FBI or do something cool like that. I love Criminal Minds, but then I was like, I don’t know if this is going to be something I want to do forever and it’s not like the safest job in the world,” said Kwiatkowski.
He is fortunate enough to already have a job lined up for him once he graduates. He’ll be working in the insurance field and will be training to become a claim adjuster with a company out of Atlanta. His new job is only 45 minutes away from home and he’s excited about this opportunity.
“I’m excited to make money and save up and do all those sorts of things, and I’m just excited to start my life, but also I want to, you know, enjoy what I have right now,” said Kwiatkowski.
Kwiatkowski considers himself a big kid at heart because when he has free time he likes to do the simple things. He’s most likely playing video games, doing Legos, or just relaxing. As a big Star Wars fan he finally got the millennium falcon Lego set to complete and it was a dream come true.
He’s been to a lot of places growing up but one of his favorite places he’s ever visited was Salt Lake City, Utah.
“I’ve always wanted to travel Midwest and when we finally went out there, I realized I was like, oh my gosh, this is everything,” he said.
He’s already made plans to travel back in ten years to see if anything has changed. Kwiatkowski has never been outside of the country and doesn’t even have a passport, but he has some dream destinations he eventually wants to go to.
“I would love to go to Greenland. Just like something completely different than what we have. Or Costa Rica or another type of tropical place,” said Kwiatkowski.
When it comes to any advice for those just starting college or transferring to a new school it’s to find where you fit in for who you are. Kwiatkowski never changed who he was just because someone didn’t like him.
“The biggest thing for me is I’m always just myself,” said Kwaitkowski. “I don’t care if someone doesn’t like me. I just try to be me. I think I have a fun personality,” he said.
