LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A bipartisan group of Nevada lawmakers has proposed adding lacrosse as a state-sanctioned sport.
Several club teams that play lacrosse are currently affiliated with schools in the Las Vegas and Reno areas.
SB 305 would allow the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) to adopt regulations for adding official lacrosse programs at Nevada high schools.
It would be up to the NIAA to create competition rules and establish the length of a season.
In addition, SB 305 would have the NIAA create a Pipeline Infrastructure Fund to support sports participation.
The fund would collect gifts, grants and donations, and the money would go toward school resources, hiring and wrap-around services.
NIAA is a non-profit that governs all high school athletics in Nevada. It does not receive any state funding.
