Costco fans patiently waiting for a popular food court menu item to return will have their wishes granted soon — but there’s a catch.
The warehouse chain’s members will see the the hot turkey and provolone sandwich hit menus nationwide starting the week of March 16.
Some Oregon Costco warehouses already started accepting orders last week, according to Redditors.
The revamped sandwich includes the original oven roasted turkey, provolone cheese, red onions and tomatoes that are panini pressed. Basil garlic mayonnaise replaces the previous basil pesto sauce.
However, shoppers may be disappointed to see that they’ll have to shell out more dough to order the beloved sandwich. The hot turkey and provolone now costs $6.99, instead of its previous $3.99.
Costco originally had the hot turkey and provolone on the menu for several years before removing it due to “the pressures of the pandemic,” according to Tasting Table. This is potentially because it was “not cost effective nor labor effective.”
The chain replaced it with the more pricey turkey Swiss sandwich also for $6.99, but members were not satisfied with the swap. This lead many disgruntled shoppers to start a petition called ”Bring back the Costco turkey pesto sandwich” in March 2022 where some called discontinuing the item the store’s worst move.
“Ever since it left my life has not been the same,” one petition supporter said, according to Tasting Table.
Now, they can return to their local Costco food court to order the long-awaited sandwich once again in a few days — and hope it becomes a permanent fixture, like the $1.50 Kirkland hot dogs.
This is the latest in a slew of Costco food court menu updates. Just last month, Costco debuted a #3 strawberry banana smoothie that has already become a fan favorite menu item.
