Chelsea Handler’s Ex-Boyfriend’s Kids Gave Her a Very Unique Nickname

For years, Chelsea Handler has been candid about being childfree by choice. And so it was no surprise that she opened up to SHE Media CEO Samantha Skey at the SXSW SHE Media Co-Lab about the topic that makes the Harrison Butkers off the world scratch their heads in confusion and wave their fists in rage.

There’s a misconception doesn’t have kids of her own because she hates kids, but she insists that isn’t the case. You see, the comedian is very aware of her “bandwidth,” and so instead of having biological kids of her own, she is very content having other children in her life.

There are family members’ kids, friends’ kids, strangers’ kids, and a former partner’s kids.

“[I have] ex boyfriend’s children that I helped raise and that call me father,” Handler told Skey.

They call her “father.” You know that’s a super close, very unique, and really special relationship if these kids have a parental name for their dad’s ex.

“I actually have a lot of bandwidth for children because I don’t have my own children,” she said. “So if I had my own children, I’d probably be a lot more centered on that, but I’m able to give out a lot, and I’m able to make contributions in a bigger way because of being freed up in that way.”

Handler describes the role of women without biological children (who have JD Vance all in a bigoted tizzy!) as “unsung” and said she likes how women are now being “more vociferous” about whether they are “cut out” for motherhood.

“We can contribute in a million other ways, and there’s a million ways to be valuable in society,” she continued. “So I love to really shout that out loud, and I can’t say it enough.”

She really can’t say it enough. Earlier this week, Handler made an appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast.

“It’s so important to know if you have what it takes to be a mother,” the TV host said. “I don’t have that.”

She reiterated that she doesn’t have the “bandwidth,” but that being childfree allows her to do “really amazing” things for the other kids in her life. She can send strangers to college. She can take her friends’ kids on vacation.

“If you’re not cut out for motherhood, you’re doing your unborn child a favor, and you’re doing the world a favor,” she said. “We don’t need any more neglected or screwed up children.”

“[Not having a child] has made me even more sensitive to just being a sister to the world … being there for other women and showing up and being honest and telling the truth,” she continued. ” … The older I get, the more I understand how valuable that stuff is so I focus on that because that’s the stuff I’m good at.”

And like she said at SXSW, what she’s good at is being “father” to her former partner’s kids.
