Amarillo man inspires youth and community through Make-A-Wish Car show

The Make-A-Wish Car Show has been a beacon of inspiration for children and car enthusiasts alike for 40 years. This year, Justin Rocha, a longtime attendee, won the Spectator’s Choice Award for the third consecutive year with his Z06 Corvette.

Rocha’s passion for cars began as a child when he attended the show with his father. Now, as an adult, he showcases his Corvette, hoping to inspire the next generation.

“I always wanted to have a Corvette, was very blessed to have the opportunity to get one,” Rocha said. “Now that I have that opportunity, I like to showcase it and be able to give back to the kids and show forth and let them have an opportunity to look at it and take pictures and sit in it just like I did as a kid.”

His Batman-themed car, adorned in black, has become a favorite among children.

Rocha emphasized the importance of engaging with the youth, saying, “You know it’s all about the kids. That was the whole point about the car putting a theme to it. It was making it a Batman-themed car, it’s all black, and the kids love it. Brought the memorabilia out there, and brought some things for the kids. It was always about the kids and being able to get them excited and make them come out to the Make A Wish and give them a purpose out there.”

Winning the award again was a personal triumph for Rocha, who cherishes the connections he makes with young fans.

“It’s a great feeling for myself because I made a kid happy and proud and he enjoyed the car show as well as myself,” he said.

Looking ahead, Rocha hopes to expand his involvement in next year’s event by entering more cars and setting up a merchandising booth.
