Reno hosts inaugural Sierra Kids Spring Carnival

Over 200 locals poured into the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center on Sunday for the city of Reno’s inaugural Sierra Kids Spring Carnival.

It offered everything from a bouncy house, to a raffle, to plenty of arts and crafts.

“The event is really awesome. like, we didn’t expect that it would be so lively today. so it’s a great event to attend,” said Nagappen, a dad who attended the event with his family.

Through the carnival, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department wanted everyone to know about what’s in store for the coming months.

“We’re kind of trying to highlight some of our programs that we have throughout parks and rec. In the youth department, we have a bunch of stuff going on, crafts and games, like things we do at our afterschool programs… we have aquatics, athletics, youth, city council, and our rangers,” said Jesse Wydrinski, Recreation Coordinator with the city of Reno.

The city will also offer specialty camps this spring.

“Instead of just a generic day camp with activities and field trips, we have a bike camp where you can go and learn how to mountain bike. We have a performing arts camp where you get exposed to poetry, dance, and acting,” Wydrinski said.

After a few months of preparation, Wydrinski was happy to see the carnival come together.

“Because this is the first year we’ve done it, we weren’t sure what our turnout would be. So we’re really happy with all the people that came out today… Anything we can do for the community or in service of the community, we are glad to do,” said Wydrinski.
