Kids possibly left alone in Port Angeles RV fire that killed 5-year-old, hurt 1-year-old

In what turned out to be a grim coincidence, separate fires claimed the lives of children in two Clallam County cities on Sunday.

At 7:42 p.m. Sunday, deputies and firefighters were dispatched to the 1300 block of Gasman Road in Port Angeles for an RV fire.

Firefighters arrived at the scene quickly, but not before a 5-year-old died in the fire.

A 1-year-old who was also inside the RV was taken to Olympic Medical Center with serious injuries, then later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for continued treatment.

Early information developed by investigators suggests the source of the fire may have been a small refrigerator and the children were left alone for an unknown amount of time, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said.

The fire is under investigation by the CCSO and Clallam County Fire District 3.

Also in Clallam County on Sunday, one juvenile was killed and a second was hurt in a fire in Sequim that was called out at 7:43 p.m.
