New sports complex opens in Madisonville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) — On Saturday, Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton cut the ribbon on the brand-new Kentucky Sports Factory, celebrating the facility’s potential for local and regional events.

Mayor Cotton says the new complex is going to be a game-changer, not just for athletes, but for many families across the region.

“We have never had anything like this,” said sports factory worker, Dory Stone. “It’s still growing their going to be adding on stuff.”

You’ll find six gleaming hardwood basketball courts inside the sports complex, which can quickly transform into volleyball or pickleball courts.

There’s also a 60-yard indoor turf field, for those ready to play some soccer or flag football and even batting cages.

“I like it a lot, because I like how many basketball courts there are and the volleyball,” said one of the visiting family members.

Kentucky Sports Factory employees say they are just as excited as the patrons.

“I feel like it’s opened up sports for many kids and just being able to come out and play with their friends. And it’s opened up socially because it gets us off our phones and everything and I think that’s just great for our generation,” said Kentucky Sports Factory employee, Chloe B.

“I grew up play AU and not having anywhere to play close, so I think its a good opportunity for Madisonville,” said Kentucky Sports Factory employee, Carlos Mason.

“It’s already just shown how great for the community it’s going to be with all the revenue already coming in, it’s helping the local businesses and providing such a great job for us,” said Kentucky Sports Factory employee, Katie Doran.

With a big concessions area, party rooms and even conference spaces, the Kentucky Sports Factory is designed to host everything from birthday parties to regional tournaments.

“Everyone always says we need something for the kids, there’s nothing for the kids to do. We’ll this is it were here and were ready for the kids to come in and run and play and have a great time with us,” said Doran.

Madisonville mayor Kevin Cotton and Hopkins County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield both agree that this new venture is not just about changing the way athletes train for sports, rather it is about the community coming together.

“To do something for this community of this magnitude is just, it’s just huge,” said Whitfield. “The county is going to grow from this, it just adds so much to the community and I am just so excited to see all of what is going to come out of this.”

“We have got new retailers coming in and some have already opened. All because of the fact that we announced that were investing into our youth and the community and brining in the Kentucky Sports Factory,” said Cotton.

Officials say this complex will boost the local economy and provide a space for everyone.
