Mountaineers Drop Series Finale to College of Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – App State Baseball led early but was victimized by a big fifth inning from the College of Charleston, falling 11-4 to the Cougars on Sunday at The Ballpark at Patriots Point.

The Cougars (9-5) hit two home runs and scored six times in the bottom of the fifth inning, breaking a 4-4 tie, and went on to score the final seven runs of the contest.

One day removed from a season-high 21 hits, App State (7-8) mustered just four hits in the contest – all singles. Joseph Zamora collected a pair of RBIs on a bases loaded single into right field in the top of the third inning. Juan Correa followed with a sac fly to put App State in front 3-1 after two and a half innings of play.

However, App State scored just one other run in the contest, a bases-loaded sac fly from John Kramer in the top of the fifth inning to tie the score at 4-4. App State totaled 11 base runners on the afternoon but went just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, leaving seven runners on base.

Everette Harris started for the Mountaineers and struck out three over three innings of work. Cal Clark was the first reliever summoned from the bullpen, conceding two unearned runs in the fourth inning. Liam Best was the only App State pitcher to put up a zero, retiring the side in order in the eighth inning.

Nearly all of the offensive damage in the ballgame was done by the top three hitters in the Cougars lineup, which combined for six of the home team’s nine hits and nine of their 10 RBIs.

App State will return to Boone for a four-game homestand beginning on Tuesday when the Mountaineers host Charlotte in a non-conference tilt. App State then begins Sun Belt play with a three-game series against Texas State Friday through Sunday. All four contests will be streamed on ESPN+.

The 2025 App State Baseball season is presented by Chick-fil-A.
