‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ Reveals New Monsters, New Difficulty, Home Base

Monster Hunter Wilds is still in the midst of its phenomenal launch, attracting a record number of players paired with a record number of sales. Now, it’s already announcing where things are going from here with two upcoming Title Updates to the game. Both are free.

There are a significant number of things to go through based on what has been announced, so let’s begin:

Event Quests – This has already started with a current one running through Tuesday, that grants special headgear. The next will be the following week, and grant cheese that can be used as a special BBQ ingredient. Then, another, currently unlisted one, the week after. You get the idea. Weekly event quests with unique rewards. So, stay logging in.

New Monsters – Capcom has announced the specifics of the first Title Update 1 monster (set for early April, no date yet) which will be Mizutsune, which will come with the requisite weapons and armor. Title Update 2 in the summer will bring another monster, but there’s only an thumbnail image that looks like some sort of dragon. I’m not sure if that’s a placeholder or not or if it’s a true early look. My guess would be the latter.

New Difficulty – Currently, Tempered monsters are the highest difficulty monsters to seek out, but there will be a new level above that coming in Title Update 1, perhaps addressing some of the “this is too easy” complaints about the endgame.

New Home Base – The exact structure of this is a little unclear, but TU1 will also bring: “A new place to meet, communicate, have meals together and more with other hunters will be added to Monster Hunter Wilds in TU1!” So some sort of home base, but the exact nature of which remains to be seen. Nothing about say, cosmetic decorations or anything. You have to have finished the main story in order to access it (not clear if that’s considered the first three or all six chapters).

There is also going to be a future patch that moves beyond purely technical issues to get into some of the larger problems in the game, and Capcom has made a long list of changes and fixes coming in that next update:

  • Equipment loadouts can remove decorations, Bowgun customization and Kinsects.
  • Cut-off monster parts can turn into parts from a different monster.
  • Some skills get unintentionally activated under certain conditions.
  • Some monsters behave strangely under certain conditions.
  • Some items can be unintentionally claimed repeatedly.
  • Gravios does not gain flinch resistance after breaking its part.
  • Only the first 20 lists are shown correctly in the quest list.

That’s some of them, but there are missing issues with skills that I think a lot of players have run into with a repeated complaint that many of them do not work as stated. We’ll see how many of those are caught in the future, but it appears many are still being missed. Still, these Title Updates are certainly something to look forward to more generally.
