Police say a group of juveniles were fighting in the food court, and that there is no evidence of a shooting.
TUKWILA, Wash. — A heavy police response at Southcenter Mall was prompted by a group of juveniles fighting in the food court on Saturday night, according to the Tukwila Police Department.
“Contrary to some initial reports, officers have found no evidence that any shots were fired,” the police department posted around 8:40 p.m. on social media.
Police say they did not find anyone with gunshot wounds.
Blood was seen in the food court area due to a physical fight, police say. No one was transported to the hospital.
During the fight, chairs and metal divider poles were knocked over, hitting the floor and creating “loud bang sounds,” the police department said.
“We have had the same thing happen in the past in which people reported these sounds as shots when in fact they were not,” the department said. The mall was placed into lockdown as a precaution.
Photos show a large police presence outside the mall. Tukwila police said due to the nature of the call, multiple agencies responded to assist.
If anyone witnessed someone brandishing a gun or shooting firearms, you are urged to contact the police department.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
