Culinary Village draws thousands to annual Wine and Food festival

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – It’s a busy weekend jam-packed with events for the Wine and Food Fest, including the Culinary Village, where thousands took part in food and wine sampling, chef demos and entertainment at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Friday.

Thousands of people explored hundreds of booths with vendors from near and far.

One campaign’s booth highlighted healthy ingredients from outside the country. The campaign is funded by the European Government and is meant to educate about their food standards. Attendees could sample products from all 27 member seats of the EU and people can expect to learn about the quality and authenticity of European products as well as how they are made. They’re also teaching you how to better understand food labels.

“People can definitely learn a lot about these two labels, the PDO and PGI labels which signify the quality and authenticity of European ingredients,” European Union project manager Caroline Rorem said.

“Those labels basically mean that a product was produced and made with ingredients in a certain region in Europe, so it can’t be replicated so it’s just showing how authentic they are,” European Union project manager Caroline Cotch said.

“They’re up to specific. They are very unique products,” European Union project manager Shannon Stickles said.

The Culinary Village event runs from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
