Covington children ages 3 through 3rd grade can now participate in Read Ready Covington’s 2025 Read Across Covington Reading Challenge.
The program challenges local families to read with their kids using two free digital apps provided by the program: Footsteps2Brilliance and Clever Kids University. Kids who go to school in Covington or attend daycare or another educational program within the city but aren’t permanent residents can also participate in the challenge- and even win prizes!
“People often think learning to read is a natural process and starts in school,” said Mary Kay Connolly, director of Read Ready Covington, in a press release. “Actually, the first and crucial knowledge, skills and positive attitudes about learning occur starting at birth with active encouragement and participation by the adults in a child’s life.”
Read Ready Covington is an educational initiative paid for in part by the city that aims to build early childhood reading and language skills beyond conventional classroom instruction. The apps connected to the program are available in English and Spanish and can be used on most smart devices, laptops and home computers.
The challenge lasts through April 8. At the end of each week, six students will be drawn to win a prize. Check out the city’s announcement for more information on how to participate.
