AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Since 2018, the Augusta Dream Center has hosted Cinderella Day. It’s a special day centered around high school girls.
Girls are invited to come out and take part in the free event that pampers, encourages and empowers them ahead of prom.
The organization is finding solutions in making sure dreams come true for these young ladies.
It’s an event that’s going on its 8th year.
Cinderella Day started as a way to make sure all students were able to participate in prom while not having to worry about any financial barriers.

Kellie Newman is the director of the Augusta Dream Center and says the event goes far beyond just that.
“We quickly realized this is more than socioeconomics,” said Newman. “It’s an opportunity to empower young girls and help transform them from the inside out.”
The Augusta Dream Center is getting ready this week to welcome around 200 high school girls from across the CSRA.
They will receive dresses, shoes and accessories while also getting their hair and makeup done by local stylists.
Newman says they focus a lot on building the girls up from within, too.
“When the girls come from this one-day event, all throughout their day they are reminded how important they are, how valued they are, how beautiful they are and while they are here we go through some educational pieces of what a healthy prom night should look like,” said Newman.
She says this is all made possible thanks to the community, who donated about 1,000 dresses.
“We have so many people just pour in to us, but then just every day individuals who have formal wear they need to get rid of so they donate it to us, and all of the shoes too,” said Newman. “We also get monetary support to help make it possible, and we are just so grateful.”

Newman says at times some girls come to Cinderella Day sad, but once they’re getting ready to leave, it’s a different story.
“When they see the whole look and see themselves, some are moved to tears,” said Newman. “When they leave, they get to walk the purple carpet, and they have a glamour shot at the end. I have a cheering squad for them, and they just feel so celebrated, and it’s a boost to their confidence and self-esteem. It’s a great event.”
The girls get to leave with everything they receive, plus a goodie bag just in time for prom.
Cinderella Day is Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Augusta Dream Center located off Peach Orchard Road.
You have until noon on Thursday, March 6, to sign your high schooler up.
However, we’re told if you show up at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, that’s fine too.
