3 adults arrested after kids show signs of physical abuse at Columbia hospital, deputies say

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) confirmed three adults were arrested and charged with two counts of inflicting great bodily injury upon a child.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 31, deputies were dispatched to a hospital in Columbia about two infants under the age of one showing signs of physical abuse.

Deputies said Amos Rodrequiz Mobley, Jr., and Daija Kianna Taniyah Benjamin were questioned. Anita Hingleton-Mobley was also questioned about the condition of the children but deputies said she was deemed a suspect after the interview.

Warrants for them were issued on Monday, Feb. 24 after deputies said they gathered enough evidence.

Deputies said the suspects turned themselves in on Monday into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where they were charged.

According to RCSD, both kids remain under direct medical supervision but they did not sustained life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for Richland County School District One confirmed Hingleton-Mobley is a former substitute teacher at the district as of January 2022.

Deputies said the case remains under investigation.
