
Teenagers and young adult students in Birmingham who are looking to earn valuable work experience this summer and make some extra money, can apply for the WBRC 6 News Kids & Jobs program.
WBRC and the city of Birmingham’s Department of Youth Services are partnering to offer summer jobs to Birmingham youth over a five-week period this summer.
The Exposure (14–15-year-olds) and the Executive (16-24-year-olds) components of the Kids & Jobs program are designed to help cultivate the professional development necessary to empower students to become an integral part of the business community.
Program Details
If accepted for the program, students can earn between $11 to $14 per hour, work four hours each day/five days a week over a five-week period!
The program dates are June 9 through July 11.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a Birmingham resident
- 2.0 GPA requirement
- Must be at least 14 years of age and cannot exceed age 24 by June 9, 2025
- Full commitment to work from June 9 – July 11, 2025
Application and Interview Process
The application period is from Monday, March 3 through Friday, April 11.
Exposure Applicants (14–15-year-olds)
Interviews for the Exposure component will be held at the Boutwell Auditorium on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Doors will be open from 8:30 until 9 a.m. Youth attending must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Exposure applicants must bring the following documents to the interview:
- Completed application (All pages and forms)
- Copy of most recent report card
- Typed resume
- Two recommendation forms (Note: Forms should not be completed by a relative)
- Typed 200 Word response to the essay question listed on the application. (Note: The essay should be attached to your application packet.)
Potential program participants will be scored in five areas: application, articulation, appearance, attitude, and academics.
Executive Applicants (16-24-year-olds)
Applications for the Executive component should be emailed to [email protected] by April 11, 2025 by 4 p.m.
If selected, Executive component candidates will be contacted for a virtual interview.
