‘Turf Tank Robot’ paints fields at Mohawk Sports Complex

Mohawk Sports Complex is using a robot — the Turf Tank Robot — to paint its fields.

The Turf Tank Robot is the world’s first autonomous robotic field painter.

The robot paints all field types at Mohawk Sports Complex, which is home to 17 fields.

“We can easily change the field type from an ultimate frisbee field to a soccer field,” said Mark Hargis, general manager of Mohawk Sports Complex.

It would take over an hour and half to hand paint a soccer field — the robot cuts that time.

“It’s going to take you 45 minutes on the normal speed, and it’ll take you about 30 minutes on the faster speed, so when you speed it up, it can really do make a large impact that labor time and the time that it takes to paint a field,” Hargis said.

To hand paint all 17 fields into soccer fields, it would take over 25 hours.

Meanwhile, the Turf Tank Robot can transform all the fields into soccer fields in eight to 13 hours, depending on its speed.

“I don’t have a huge team, so it really helps me,” Hargis said.

Hargis said the robot has made multi-tasking easier.

“I can just set it and forget it and go put out corner flags, take care of some of the other stuff I need to take care of at the complex,” Hargis said.

It has also saved the complex money.
