Non-profit group fights food insecurity with food drive in Henrietta for Ramadan

Henrietta, N.Y. — A non-profit humanitarian group is working to fight food insecurity during Ramadan.

Islamic Relief USA, along with the Bakarah Muslim Charity, used the day to distribute dozens of boxes of food to those in need.

“The prices are skyrocketing, the housing is expensive, the food has become extremely expensive, and families are really struggling,” said Arma Omerhodzic, the finance director of the Bakarah Muslim Charity. “So, we feel like this is just some extra help during Ramadan just to help them.”

The group says it will be hosting additional events aimed at reducing food insecurity throughout the year.
